Ice Rinks + Skating Trails
When making this list I wanted to make sure that not all the ideas had to do with Christmas. Of course, Christmas can be a hard time for many so you simply don’t celebrate it. So why not incorporate a fun winter activity instead? As a Toronto proposal photographer, I’m thinking first and foremost about how adorable and beautiful your big moment will be on camera. I also know that if you decide to hire a photographer to capture the moment it’s probably because your partner really wanted it. I’ve looked through all the ice rink and skating trail options in Toronto and narrowed it down to the three below. These made the top of the list because they are quieter and the most visually appealing.
Top 3 Ice Skating Locations for a Proposal

- The Bentway Ice Skating Trail
- Nathan Phillips Square Ice Rink
Distillery District Christmas Market
Are you traditional folk? What better than a good old holiday market? The Distillery District Christmas Market is a Toronto must-do. On an average day the district is romantic but when it’s Christmas trees and lights are on it hits a new level. After popping the big question slip into the warmth of the many amazing restaurants within the historical area. Photo permits are technically required here. However, through all the surprise proposals I have photographed, we have never been asked to show a permit. Please proceed at your own risk! The fine is $250.
Riverdale Park East Tobogganing
Does your partner love speed and adrenaline? What about tobogganing down a hill that also has an incredible view of the city skyline? This will give you the opportunity to create such fun and playful photos together because of the activity. However, it’s also a great cover to get your partner to their proposal moment without any suspicion. This location is such a nice option for a low-key proposal and winter engagement photos.
Cosy Mint Room Studios
If your partner doesn’t agree with the cold don’t fret! I still have a great winter proposal ideas Toronto for you that doesn’t involve runny noses and red hands. Mint Room Studios is a collection of lovely photo studios that they decorate beautifully for the holiday session. Every room has a different look so you’ll definitely find a space that your partner will vibe with. It takes a lot off your shoulders to not have to make a set-up of your own. Hourly rates start at $95. Visit their festive studio set-ups on their website here: Mint Room Decor Set-Ups
Glen Stewart Ravine Snowy Hike
Are you a nature lover who is looking for a simple, private proposal location? Is there anything better than stepping onto the peaceful trails and immersing yourself in trees blanketed in snow? If you pick a weekday before 5 pm you have a better chance of having a private proposal. The Glen Stewart Ravine is said to have some of the best winter landscape views in the whole city.
Canada’s Wonderland Winterfest
Want to make a big statement when declaring your love? Consider the Winterfest at Canada’s Wonderland. Everyone knows that Wonderland always goes big with its festivals. There is ice skating, rides, endless Christmas trees and millions of lights. Picture this… You’re standing in front of an incredible display of lights telling the love of your life how much you love them. After your big moment, you can have the night of your life celebrating together with all the activities to be had. Admission ticket is $29.99. This is such a good winter proposal ideas Toronto!
Christmas at the Castle: Casa Loma
Casa Loma is a classically beautiful Toronto landmark. During the holiday season, they decorate the castle and hold events. Admission to the castle is $45 per person. However, you can keep it simple just by proposing in front of the castle and continuing your photo session outdoors. If you would like respite from the cold weather you can purchase a photo permit that includes the inside of the caste. Of course, there are many beautiful rooms that you can use to create awesome photos with your photographer.
Allan Gardens Winter Flower Show
Looking for something super unique? The Allan Gardens Conservatory puts on a Winter Flower Show from December 2nd to January 9th. During this time the greenhouse is fully filled with flowering plants including many different varieties of the popular Christmas plant, Pointsetta. They will also have seasonal topiaries made completely from plants. I love this idea because being surrounded by the beauty of nature in a warm conservatory feels like a mini vacation. Admission is free to the event but a photography permit is needed to bring a Toronto proposal photographer along.
