Tips for a Touching Proposal Speech
It can be tough to be emotional and vulnerable but if you start off your proposal moment with a touching speech your partner will be so happy. No pressure though. It doesn’t have to be super rehearsed, memorized, long-winded, or cheesy. It’s better if it pours naturally from the heart and feels authentic. However, you’ll want to know what you want to say and practice a little so it flows right.
Not sure what to say when proposing? To get inspired, consider the answers to the following questions:
- What was it like meeting for the first time / first date? How did you feel? Did you think you would end up where you are now?
- When did you realize they were the one you wanted to spend the rest of your life with? How did you feel in that moment?
- What are you most looking forward to in your future together?
- What’s one of the most memorable/fun/meaningful experiences you’ve had together?
- What do you love most about their personality?
- Have they impacted you or your life for the better? In what ways?
- Do they make you laugh often? Are there specific silly things they do that you love?
Here’s a template to help you get the juices following:

When __moment knew they were the one__ I knew I never wanted to be without you. You bring so much __adjective__ into every moment. I can’t wait to __particular future experiences together__ and make even more memories together. Like that time we __memorable experience__ . I love how __multiple personality traits__ you are. You’ve made my life so much more __adjective__ and _adjective__ by ___how they’ve impacted your life__. Thank you for always being there for me and filling my life with __adjective__. Especially when you __silly thing they do that you love___. I love you so much. Will you marry me?
Example:
Rebecca, when I met you I knew right away you were incredible. I am so grateful that we met and that our first date was just one of so many. When you fit right in with my family on Christmas I knew I never wanted to be without you. You bring so much fun into every moment. I can’t wait to start a family, give our kids so much love and make even more memories together. Like that time we tried surfing in Hawaii and laughed so much as ourselves. I love how fun, thoughtful, and adventurous you are. You’ve made my life so much more exciting and meaningful by pushing me to grow and try new things. Thank you for always being there for me and filling my life with happiness. Especially when you baby the dogs and give them ridiculous nicknames. I love you so much. Will you marry me?
