Corrados Intimate Wedding in Whitby

I was connected with Brooke through a mutual friend whose intimate backyard wedding I photographed in Durham Region. She was planning a Corrados intimate wedding in Whitby and looking for a photographer that captures candid feeling couple photos. They were inviting 40 of their closest friends and family as they wanted to focus on strengthening their already strong bonds and creating more memories.

The idea of being the centre of attention at a large, typical wedding was not something she wanted for herself. This is a sentiment that I am hearing from more and more engaged couples. The pandemic changed the perspective on weddings, and it seems the traditional wedding is falling by the wayside. Younger generations are beginning to prioritise affordable events, with close personal connections being the focal point.

What I’ve noticed about large traditional weddings is that the couple struggles to spend time with each guest. They seem to spend their whole wedding reception making the rounds, so at least they thank everyone for coming. Understandably, these couples feel morally obligated to acknowledge every guest. This reduces the time they could spend connecting with their special people. It’s at the larger weddings that I photograph that the couple exclaims, “It’s all a blur!”

The micro wedding allows couples to be more present and relieves the pressures of cost and planning stress. While micro weddings don’t require full day photo coverage, I am also relieved of pressure. Everyone knows that being a Durham Region wedding photographer is a stressful job. So while it means less money made in a day, I am happier documenting intimate weddings. Additionally, I feel more connected to the couple because I don’t blend into a crowd of guests. At a micro wedding, the photographer is up close and a part of every moment.

Their ceremony began soon after I arrived at their Corrados intimate wedding in Whitby. I was surprised by the beautiful window light in the upstairs loft and throughout the venue. The emotions on the faces of Nick, Brooke and their families were so sweet. My favourite images capture the way Nick looks so adoring at his wife. You can feel the love and happiness spill from the image.

After capturing their beautiful ceremony and the excited congratulations from their loved ones, we walked over to Grass Park. We had a great time capturing their family photos before moving on to their bride and groom photography. Grass Park is small, but we created a variety of easy-going wedding photos in the sunshine. From there, we crossed back over the street to begin their reception.

The room was filled with laughter and conversation as everyone was nearby. After enjoying their meals and time together, the couple had a fun second part of their reception planned. The next venue was Neb’s Fun World for bowling together. This couple prioritized having fun and creating an environment where their guests could make new connections.

This also banished any sense of formality and allowed everyone to be easygoing and carefree. Formal receptions with separate tables makes it harder for guests to socialize with new people. I had such a good time being a part of this awesome couple’s day. I hope I have the chance to work with many more couples who are planning intimate weddings this year. It brings so much joy and meaning to my work. I can’t wait for the upcoming wedding season!
