I believe that constant learning, growth and experimentation is the mandate for becoming the best artist you can be. Therefore, much of my time is spent learning to better myself, my business and the outcome in every area for my clients. I have recently been studying the importance of movement and emotion in portraiture. Specifically reading from talented wedding and portrait photographer, Ben Sasso. I started thinking about what he had to say about the mood you aim to portray and how movement creates a more natural capture. I wanted to practice what he had been preaching so I automatically called upon the person who has been my guinea pig since day one. My talented and beautiful Make Up/Hair artist sister, Sarah. I described to her my visualization and communicated to her everything that I wanted her to portray. It’s super important to see eye to eye and let your subject know everything you’re thinking so you can work together to create the shot. Once I knew who I would be photographing I wanted to create imagery that aligned with who she was as a creative. I thought about how I could relate the mediums she uses everyday to movement. I came to the idea that we would use hairspray, make up powder and shampoo. They all enhanced her movement and just the effect of the dust exploding through the air is fantastic. Yes, we were throwing all these things around my studio for 2 hours so that didn’t make for the most awesome clean up but it really worked out. Im also proud of myself and my sister for creating killer images 😀 Can you guess the emotions we were putting across?
Bowmanville Maternity Photography – Bowmanville Valley Conservation Area
Such exciting news for Hailey and Kyle to be expecting their first child together. Hailey brought along some cute props and Halloween themed ideas as they are due on the 31st. I’m so in love with maternity photography sessions at Bowmanville Valley Conservation Area! So perfect! Update: Hailey gave birth to a healthy boy that they named Easton. I’m so happy that I will be photographing his newborn photos 🙂
To create a new life… to make the decision that you are going to bring a being with a combination of you and your lover into this world. Non-existant now but coming into being inside of your heart and body. The commitment of bringing a child into the world with your partner is an even greater one in a lot of people’s minds than marriage. This little person needs you both more than you will ever need each other. Yes, there will be ups and downs and times when you will need to lean on each other’s shoulders, as parenting is hard. But this little one’s whole survival lays in your hands. You will grow with them, shaping their experience, personality and in turn their future. What a daunting challenge. What an amazing gift.
Greenwood Conservation Area Photography
I was so excited to take on this mother daughter shoot with Brianna and her mom Lisa as I had never done one quite like it. I had heard and done mommy and me sessions with young kids but not kids that were all grown up. This shoot was so great for me as this pair felt so comfortable in front of the camera and it was easy to pose them naturally to create some great moments. It’s so clear that their relationship is strong. Thank you so much to Bri and Lisa for choosing me to capture your bond. It means the world to me that you invited me in to witness and capture your love. The fall colours so vivid with reds and warm tones work so well in complimenting such a session. Greenwood conservation area photography sessions are always amoung my favourites. It’s a perfect place in the gta for engagement sessions, wedding photos, family photos and the like.
Mother & Daughter
The relationship between a mother and daughter is like nothing else. An unconditional love and bond cultivated through many ups and downs. My mom always taught me never go to bed angry and to never miss a chance to say goodbye. It could be your last so embrace and to tell them just how much you truly love them. A mother is the best gift that we all have. Our reason for being, our protector, our advocate and our best friend. There are more that I could cover and many other ways that others would describe their mothers. I don’t know what I’d do without my incredible mom. She supports me in every path I decide to explore and encourages me to take risks. Taking risks and making mistakes is the quickest way to success right?
Love this session? You’ll probably love this one too!
It’s so exciting that little six days old Claire was the first newborn photography shoot that I had in my Oshawa home studio. It really was a perfect scene with the fairy lights and acoustic lullabies in the background. Even though Claire was in this serene environment and within the 14-day window that is best to photograph newborns, she had lots of trouble falling asleep. She constantly wanted to be fed or held by her mommy. None the less, like always we exercise patience, let her dose off and pose her gently. This is why I always warn parents how long a newborn session can actually take. At the end of this long day however, we captured lots of great images and Steve & Amanda were beyond happy.
You can see the maternity photos I captured for Claire’s mom and dad here!
Amanda and Steve
This Bowmanville maternity photography session featuring the incredibly adorable and loving couple, Amanda and Steve also happens to be my very first! Amanda found me through a close friend of their’s whose engagement photographs I did and wedding I will also be capturing. She absolutely loved what she saw so we joined up to create the following images. I absolutely couldn’t not be any happier about the outcome and I know they are just in love with them as I am. Amanda didn’t have any locations in mind so she let me have full control of that aspect of the shoot. However, once I suggested Bowmanville Valley Conservation Area she was thrilled. Little did I know that it was an area that the couple have often visited together and adored. It is definitely a stunning location that was a unknown treasure until revealed to me by a fellow, local photographer. The photo community is so supportive and uplifting 🙂 Anyways, this shoot went so well and it was such a pleasure being in the presence of a couple so in love and at such a special time in their relationship.
Thank you so much Amanda and Steve for working with me to create everlasting snippets of this moment in your lives. I look forward to meeting your little one and capturing their first days on this earth! Let me know what you think of my Bowmanville maternity photography session results and maybe we can start planning your shoot in the near future.
